Country: Japan
Category: Medical and Pharmaceutical
This novel eco-friendly pharmaceutical packaging ensures drug stability and enhances usability for anti-cancer medications suitable for patients of all ages and cancer types. By transitioning from conventional bottle formats to blister packaging with precisely measured dosage units, it meets the practical needs of healthcare professionals while improving patient experience.
The blister sheet contains biomass-based plastics account for more than 50% of the total material content (certified by the Japan BioPlastics Association). Our technology enables uniform film thickness, even for the difficult-to-form size #0 capsule pockets, contributing to the maintenance of drug stability (Ref 1, 2).
For the outermost polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer of the aluminum pouch enclosing the blister sheets, we use a film containing 80% recycled PET (certified by the Council for PET Bottle Recycling) (Ref 2). To enhance pouch usability, we adopted laser-processed tear lines with specialized geometry to improve ease of opening.
Through these technological advancements, we have developed a sustainable and user-friendly packaging solution that provides appropriate dosage units to meet the needs of both healthcare providers and patients, while fulfilling our commitment to environmental responsibility (Ref 3).

Rozlytrek is available in two dosage forms: a size #2 capsule containing 100 mg and a size #0 capsule containing 200 mg of active ingredient. The most significant technological advancement was the development of a forming technology for blister pockets using a multilayer film designed for relatively large size #0 capsules. The blister film is a three-layer structure of polypropylene (PP), polyethylene(PE) containing biomass-based PE, and PP. The overall biomass content of the film exceeds 50%. Forming the film is extremely difficult due to the softness of the PE layer and the differences in physical properties among the materials. By optimizing manufacturing parameters, we successfully achieved a uniform film thickness distribution, which is essential for protecting the drug in large pocket formations (Ref 1, 2).
To improve patient usability, the aluminum pouch incorporates an innovative laser-cut opening technology. This technology ensures ease of opening for patients, including elderly individuals and those with physical impairments. The outermost PET layer of the aluminum pouch film contains 80% recycled PET (Ref 2). Read Less
