Flexible and sustainable packaging concept for fruit and vegetables
Country: Norway
Category: Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
Designed for high-capacity automatic packing where the lid tightens according to actual size, prevents the avocado falling out. Designed to prevents the consumer from squeezing hard and damaging the avocado = preventing food waste. Uses certified sustainable fiber material. Consisting of only one piece, without labels, ensures easy and safe
First avocado packaging in sustainable certified solid carton. Lightweight materials, optimized for maximum transport utilization, easier handling. and better in-store exposure capabilities. Easy open-close function. Only one piece/material makes it easy to recycle properly. Large printable surfaces allow for better and more communication with the consumer.

The entire construction consisting exclusively of carton sourced from sustainably managed forests. Sourced from Nordic forest, which with its unique long fibers gives increased strength and stability to the packaging and reduces the weight due to the use of thinner cardboard. The materials are taken from well managed forest that fulfills the strictest international regulations and laws.
Consisting of certified and sustainable virgin board, the packaging helps to ensure a continuous sustainable recycling flow for board. Removes the use of plastic. Reduces problems with consumer made damages in the store because of squeezing, as the packaging is designed to make it more difficult to squeeze the item in the store. Because the packaging consists of only one piece, with the thinnest possible solid cartonboard material, the total weight is reduced and gives more loading capacity in transport.
Reduces the use of different materials and packaging materials; From a punnet, flow pack/wrap and label, to only one piece in fiber. Reduces the use of plastic by 37,7 tons at a yearly basis only in the Norwegian market. The carbon footprint is reduced by 9,7% and the solution is 100% recyclable. Optimization of the packaging has increased the loading capacity by approximately 20%. All mandatory information is printed directly on to the packaging, reducing the need for a label. Larger printable surfaces allow for better communication with the consumer and ensures correct recycling. The lid on the packaging is tightened individually based on the actual size of the avocado in the packaging - eliminating the need to use flow pack to hold the product in place. The punnet has previously been changed from plastic to fiber - where the physical size is reduced and allows for increased load capacity and increased transport capacity.
The design and materials are tailored to fit the transport box. This provides maximum utilization of transport capacity per. pallet and pr. truck. The construction is adapted to be able to handle both manual and robot stacking. The solution has given up to 20% increased load capacity in the entire value chain. By being able to print on all sides of the box - better exposure is achieved in the store. Combined with several units per. transport box, simplifies the work in the store and provides better and more utilization of space. The printable surfaces allow for clearer communication with the consumer, including information on proper storage, handling, and recycling. Increased ventilation, adapted to the various steps in the logistics chain, provides documented increased quality and durability. Which contributes to reduced food waste and better quality of the products. By having the lid tightened individually for each package, based on the actual size of the contents, the products are guaranteed to be kept in place. It ensures higher quality and reduces food waste in all parts of the value chain.
A particularly lightweight and durable solid board from certified Nordic forest is used. The use of pure fiber materials makes it easy to recycle the packaging. All information, including all required regulatory information such as shelf life, origin, batch etc, is printed directly on the carton / packaging and there is therefore no need to apply any label. This reduces the problem by mixing different materials that can complicate the recycling process. As of today, the recycling cycle for cardboard is the best developed and the one with the highest actual achievement of recyclability. The materials are pr. definition from renewable sources. Consumers are well aware of how to recycle carton correctly and it is a well-developed system.
