It is answering to the present concerns of the global environment. The thickness of this can was challenged to reach 0.19mm versus aluminum can 0.21mm thickness. Lighter weight means greater operational excellence, less spoilage, cost reduction and greater sustainability without altering the performance of the cans during the tough retorting process.
Reducing the thickness belongs to our sustainable industrial strategy (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) shared between Ardagh and its customers seen as a significant step towards innovation. For the lids, reducing the thickness by 10% of the raw material is equivalent to about 4 times the weight of the iconic Copenhagen mermaid.
