We continuously imagine, explore new technologies and create solutions that reduce or eliminate barriers to recyclability and innovation. It improves the eco – impact of packaging through replacing material, energy, and greenhouse gas emissions and also improves the processability and durability of the pack. Overall, this product is a perfect example of an eco-friendly and trendy shift.
Dals/ Pulses segment widely in India has a market volume of 26,000 MT of packaging requirement and we can understand the quantity of plastics which is used as packaging material and gets dumped into the environment. The earlier packaging of this dal which was a sandwich of PET/PE doesn’t meet the recycling & sustainable goals whereas the new development is meeting all the parameters in aspects of quality and performance with the conventional package adding breathability and recyclability as a cherry on the top.
In the current packaging format, air is entrapped inside the pack during filling of the product. To remove the entrapped air, pin holes are incorporated in the pack which are of non-uniform and the hole sizes are very high. Pinholes are sometimes blocked by the product and thus doesn’t allow the entire entrapped air to escape and in some cases high pinhole size make the pack further weaken and causing the pack damage during transit and storage.
As a solution to above stated problem, the pack has been introduced with micro-holes in the specific area to remove the headspace air immediately during the packing. By means of uniform breathable tiny holes which will allow the entrapped air to escape from the pouch & prevents bursting of the pouch during transit and storage. Micro-holes fulfil the functionality of infestation control by means of breathability or venting out of heat during transit & storage and thus helps to withstand harsh environment & provides an extended shelf life. Micro holes also provide additional functionality of Anti-skid by means of the superior friction properties to hold the packs together during transit, storage and product display at super markets.
The goal of making the package easy recyclable is designed wit BOPP and PE polymers which falls under polyolefin polymer family unlike the traditional structure made of PET. As the replacement of PET being an excellent material for printability and heat resistance, the same performance is built in BOPP-PE. As Dal packaging requires good dart impact strength with multiple drop tests, the essence of packaging lies in passing it, hence our innovative integration of micro perforation plays a key role. Micro perforating an easily tearable material like BOPP requires very controlled machine parameters. This breathable and recyclable pack satisfies every segment of packaging function.
